Pearson VUE expands rollout of OnVUE online proctoring across Japan

Tokyo, Japan — February 1, 2021

Pearson VUE, the global leader in computer-based testing, announced today that it significantly expanded the rollout of its online proctoring solution, OnVUE, throughout Japan last year.

Pearson VUE’s expansion of its OnVUE online test delivery in this market, comes after the company successfully delivered over 2 million online exams globally last year. Thousands of professionals across a range of industry sectors in Japan, will now be able to choose between taking their exam at a Pearson VUE test center or remotely, with a Japanese-speaking proctor using OnVUE. Both options provide test-takers with flexible and convenient ways to take their certification exam.

Moving forward, many test-owners in the Japanese market, will benefit from the simplicity of maintaining one publishing platform with OnVUE, along with the ability to streamline all test records to one single candidate record across all of Pearson VUE’s exam delivery modalities. With just a simple check-in process, involving sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI); ID verification and face-comparison technology, they can offer a consistent testing experience to candidates taking an exam from the comfort of their own home.

We are confident that many test-owners will embrace computer-based testing this year and will introduce OnVUE as an additional option to test center exams to attract more candidates.

—Tetsu Ikeda, Vice President, Pearson VUE Japan

Pearson VUE has had a presence in Japan for over two decades, delivering high-stakes exams for many different exam sponsors in sectors including information technology, business management, and learning & development (L&D). These organizations will now be able to include a live Japanese-speaking proctor in their online exams, providing greater reassurance to candidates (who may have been greeted with an English-speaking proctor previously).

Greg Anderson, On VUE Product Manager, Pearson VUE, said "Last year we saw many test-owners requesting a Japanese-speaking proctor so significantly scaled up our expansion of OnVUE in Japan to meet this demand. It’s important that candidates taking their certifications in this key market for our global business, have the option of taking an exam online, that is invigilated in their language."

Tetsu Ikeda, Vice President, Pearson VUE Japan, explained: "2020 was a turning point for many organizations, as they felt the impact of the global pandemic and had to adapt their business models. As companies introduced home-based working for their employees, they saw the true benefits of online proctored test delivery; greater convenience and flexibility for test-takers. We are confident that many test-owners will embrace computer-based testing this year and will introduce OnVUE as an additional option to test center exams to attract more candidates."
